Following the last post, I want to talk about BTS- Bangtan Boys. I only wrote Behind the scenes because that’s how we recognize BTS. BTS is a boy band that many say paved the way for K-pop as it’s known now. BTS is a boy group from South Korea, they debuted over ten years ago and have been making music ever since. Before BTS, k-pop was relatively unknown and niche in the United States.

They’ve made so many tracks and a lot of which earned lots of awards. Everyone knows them for their songs Dynamite or Butter, but among the fans, those are actually some of the least popular. BTS has such a diverse range of music and the artists singularly have unique styles, yet they have an amazing harmony. They were the first K-pop group to top the Billboard 200 chart with “Love Yourself: Tear” as well as the first to debut number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Dynamite”.
Many people don’t realize they were the fastest act since the Beatles to earn sic US number-one singles as well. They’re much more popular than people like to admit. They have music videos like movies, and their lyrics are really good.
In terms of Love Yourself: Tear, Intro:Singularity is my favorite song of the album. It sounds smooth and sultry, the beats blend together so well. The song itself entails about the harsh realities about relationships. It’s relatable, sad, and real for a variety of people. The way they make it sound so beautiful, almost symbolizing how hard relationships might seem beautiful on the outside but they can tear you up on the inside.
Surprisingly enough, this is a common- if not the MOST common theme in their music.
The Lyrics:
There’s a sound of something breaking
I awake suddenly
A sound full of unfamiliarity
I tried blocking my ears, but I can’t sleep
My throat keeps hurting
I tried to cover it up but
I don’t have a voice
Oh, today I hear that sound too
It’s ringing again, that sound
In this frozen lake, there’s another crack
(You know) I threw myself into that lake
(You know) I buried my voice for your sake
On top of the winter lake where I abandoned myself
A thick ice is frozen
Even in a dream I enter for a moment
The phantom pain that torments me is unchanged
Did I lose myself?
Or did I gain you?
Suddenly, I run to that lake
Oh, my face is (reflected) inside of it
Please don’t say anything
I reach out to cover (your) mouth but
in the end, someday spring will come
The ice melts and flows away
Tell me, if my voice is fake
shouldn’t I have thrown myself away?
Tell me, even if the agony is fake
What should I have done at the time?

I’m not adding Dynamite- nor writing about it anymore; the significance is known and I care not for that song beyond that.
